"The Secret Garden" grows from my fascination with flowers, gardens and the endless possibilities of colour and light. As an artist who loves painting gardens, I am drawn to the abundance of nature- the way flowers bloom, overlap, disappear and return. A garden is never completely controlled; it is constantly changing, and that sense of movement and unpredictability is what I try to express in my paintings.
Many of these works are inspired by gardens I have encountered during my travels, but they are also shaped by memory and imagination. I am less interested in painting a garden exactly as it appears than in expressing how it feels: the intensity of summer, the glow of light, and the immersive wonder of being surrounded by nature. Secret Gardens is ultimately about creating and nurturing a space of our own- il faut cultiver son jardin.
Painted entirely with palette knives, this work is built through layers of gritty, tactile texture - a blend of acrylic and oil creating depth and movement on top. The many shades and texture are difficult to capture in a photograph; they reveal themselves differently in person. This work is from my Garden Series.
