It’s raining now and then - and after all, it is Dutch weather. Yet even in a rain-soaked Dutch landscape, the greyest skies hold a beauty of their own. During my walk seeing drops fall through the trees and disappear into the water, while waterlilies float with an almost mythical resilience.
I imagine the nymphs of old Greek myths still living beneath these waters - hidden, patient, watching the world above.
And then, suddenly, light breaks through the clouds. For a few minutes, the pond glows, the colours awaken, and just as quickly, the light disappears. Perhaps that is what makes rain beautiful: it teaches us to notice what is right in front of us.
Painted entirely with palette knives, this work is built through layers of gritty, tactile texture - a blend of acrylic and oil creating depth and movement. The many shades of green and blue are difficult to capture in a photograph; they reveal themselves differently in person. This work is from my Water Garden Series.
